Awareness and Demonstration Events on Electric Cooking in Madhesh Province

To promote the transition to a cleaner, more efficient cooking solution under the CCA-led Clean Cooking Project in the Madhesh Province, Sustainable Prosperity Initiative (SPI) Nepal, in collaboration with its local partners – Janaki Women Awareness Society (JWAS) at Ganeshman Charnath Municipality and Divya Development Resource Centre (DDRC) at Birgunj Metropolitan City organized Community Awareness and Demonstration Programs on Electric Cooking (EC) in various locations of Ganeshman Charnath Municipality and Birgunj Metropolitan City on various dates.

The main purpose of these events was to promote the use of electric cookstoves (ECs) by raising awareness on their economic, health, and environmental benefits, and to provide a platform for community members to experience hands-on demonstrations, and to understand safe usage practices.

 Highlights from the events:

  • more than 200 community members attended the events.
  • Live cooking demonstrations showcased the simplicity with which electric cookstoves prepare local dishes like tea and curry.
  • Participants experienced hands-on practice using the cookstoves, promoting familiarity with the technology.
  • Discussions addressed problems such as electrical safety, maintenance, and local power supply issues.
